Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oatmeal

Oatmeal is something we eat for breakfast regularly. I will cook using rolled oats in the morning which takes  about 10-15 minutes. Sometime ago, I bought a pack of steel cut oats to try because I read it is better than rolled oats as it is less- processed than rolled oats. Cooking steel cut oats on the stove in the morning takes "forever" if you are rushing for time. It is coarser, smaller and tougher.

I am glad steel cut oats cooks really well in the slow cooker. Just dump everything in the slow cooker before you sleep and you have a bowl of hot , creamy , healthy and nutritious oatmeal with all your favourite toppings to start your day.

Ingredients (serves 4 to 5)
1.5 litre of water
200g steel cut oats (yields thick consistency)
2 tablespoons chia seeds (optional)

Spice
cinnamon powder/sesame powder/chocolate powder

Toppings
blueberries/raspberries/strawberries/banana/any other fruits
cashews/almonds/walnuts/any other nuts
raisins/dates/dried cranberries/any other dried fruits

a splash of fresh milk (before serving)

Method
1. Add water to the slow cooker.

2. Add steel cut oats.

5. The next morning, your breakfast is ready. Just add your favourite toppings and serve.
